Harvest Time in Sierra Leone

Above, please find a video recently sent to us by our team in Sierra Leone. We recently started the harvest of our 17 acre rice farm. Phebian Abdulai, our Director in Sierra Leone, is speaking in Krio. A translated version of her speech is below. Special thanks to Karlin Bacher, our Director of Clinical Quality Improvement, for his translation services.

“Wow, my heart is so full of love, joy, and praise to God. As we were coming on the way, I was just meditating on what God empowered us to do. Because it was God who empowered us. Honestly, I was remembering way back from the war time until this particular moment. I was thinking about how it was possible to take this path, and how God led me to the organization that empowered us to be able to do this. I’m not able to wrap my mind around it.

Today as we stand here. I remember the founder of this organization Jericho Road Ministries, Dr. Myron Glick. When him and I met he asked me: How do you want to go about this dream and vision? What is your actual goal, target, objective?

I want a way to come and empower my people, to join them, to bring them together, to empower them to work, to have a better life. He said, “what do are the things you want to focus on.” I said, “if I get my own way I want to focus on agriculture, providing food in abundance for my people in the country, and if not for everyone in the country at least provide for those living nearby and who say they want to be part of Jericho. I want to embark on agriculture, education, and health.”

My heart is so full of joy today when I see this team coming to harvest almost 17 acres of rice. We’ve done tremendously well with everyone’s participation. This was far more than just my own effort. It’s everybody’s effort. My heart is so full of joy today to see one of the things that I said was an area of interest happening. The first one I did was health. Didn’t I say that was one of the things. The second one now is agriculture. This today is one of the first big harvests of the agriculture project. I want to tell God thank you, and I want to tell you thank you.”

Song to God by harvesters : If I get my own way I will work for you.
